Mohammad Ali Foroughi was born in 1875 in Tehran into a well-educated family. His father, Mohammad Hossein Foroughi, was a scholar and played an important role in his early education. Foroughi studied literature, philosophy, and political science and became known as an intellectual, translator, and writer. Over time he entered government service and held several important positions, including minister of finance, minister of foreign affairs, and speaker of parliament.
