Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was born on October 26, 1919, in Tehran as the son of Reza Shah. He was educated in Iran and later in Switzerland, where he attended the Le Rosey boarding school. In 1941, during Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran, his father was forced to abdicate the throne, and Mohammad Reza became the Shah of Iran at the age of 21. Early in his reign, his power was limited by political factions and foreign influence, but he gradually strengthened his authority.
