Legends of the Ancient and Modern Throne

Farah Pahlavi was born on October 14, 1938, in Tehran. She studied architecture in Paris and was introduced to Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi during a visit he made to France. The two married in 1959, and she later became Queen and then Empress of Iran. In 1967, during the Shah’s coronation ceremony, she was formally crowned Empress, becoming the first woman in modern Iranian history to receive such a title.
