Ya'qub ibn al-Layth al-Saffar was born around 840 in the region of Sistan. He came from a humble background and worked as a coppersmith, which is reflected in his title “al-Saffar,” meaning metalworker. Through military leadership and determination, he gathered followers and gradually gained control over large areas of eastern Iran. In the mid-9th century he established the Saffarid dynasty and expanded his rule across regions such as Herat and Kabul. Ya'qub sought to reduce the influence of the Abbasid Caliphate and became one of the earliest Iranian rulers after the Arab conquests to build an independent power in the region. He died in 879, leaving a legacy as a strong military leader who helped revive local Iranian rule.2026 © ShinyBerry.com
