Omid Farokhzad: From Tehran to the Edge of Nanomedicine

Omid Cameron Farokhzad’s life begins in the vibrant and crowded atmosphere of Tehran, where he was born into a middle-class family that valued education, reflection, and personal growth. From his earliest years, he grew up surrounded by books because his father was known among friends and relatives as a passionate reader who believed that the key to personal freedom was found in knowledge. This environment nurtured his intellectual curiosity and encouraged him to look beyond immediate circumstances toward broader horizons. The Iran–Iraq War, which defined much of his early childhood, exposed him to scenes of medical workers laboring under extreme pressure, and the dedication he saw in those physicians sparked an early fascination with medicine and service to others.
