Nasser Taghvai was born on July 13, 1941, in the southern Iranian city of Abadan. Growing up in this oil-rich industrial region exposed him early to the tension between modernity and tradition that would later define much of his artistic vision. The humid air of the Persian Gulf, the contrast between refinery workers and the emerging middle class, and the diversity of cultures that gathered in Abadan all shaped his imagination. These formative years gave him a deep appreciation for the rhythms of ordinary life, which he would later translate into the quiet, humanistic tone of his films.
