Born in 1908 (1287 in the Persian calendar) in the village of Nardin in eastern Semnan Province, Badri—whose full name was Badrolzaman Teymourtash—came from a family of prominence and education. Her father was a large landowner in Khorasan, and her uncle, Abdolhossein Teymourtash, served as Iran’s first Minister of Court under Reza Shah. Encouraged by her uncle’s progressive ideals, her father sent her to Europe at a young age, believing that education abroad would help her contribute meaningfully to the modernization of Iran.
