Traditional Pomak Muslim Weddings in Bulgaria

One of the most visually striking elements of traditional Pomak weddings is the ritual preparation of the bride. In some villages, her face was covered with a thick layer of white paint and adorned with colorful beads and sequins. This transformation symbolized her transition from girlhood to married womanhood. The covering of the face also represented modesty and spiritual purification before entering a new stage of life.
