One of Pesce’s major contributions was his close attention to the
Achaemenid reliefs, which depict processions, tribute bearers, royal guards, and symbolic animals. These reliefs had been described by earlier travelers, but photography allowed a far more precise rendering of their details. Pesce positioned his camera to show the rhythmic repetition of figures, the elegance of carved robes, and the expressive gestures that characterize Achaemenid visual language. His photographs later became important reference materials for scholars studying Persian iconography.
