Although Pesce’s work was groundbreaking, he operated during a time of technological limitations. Many of his negatives were fragile, and only a portion survived in good condition. Flaws such as uneven exposure, chemical stains, or cracked glass are sometimes visible in existing prints. Yet these imperfections add historical depth to his work, reminding modern viewers of the demanding conditions under which early photographers operated. The technical challenges he overcame make his achievements at Persepolis even more remarkable.
