UNESCO recognized the site as a World Heritage property in 2009, calling it “a masterpiece of creative genius.” This recognition has helped preserve the remaining structures and raise awareness of Iran’s rich heritage of water engineering. Restoration efforts continue to ensure that the canals, dams, and mills survive for future generations, though challenges such as urban expansion and changing water levels remain ongoing concerns.
